As we get closer to the big day we thought we’d share some questions we’ve received over the last few weeks, and the answers of course!

Who is the event for?

GovCamp North is open to anyone who works in or around public services. Whether they are in local government, a central government department or ministry, or if you work in an arms-length-body, agency or third sector organisation delivering or supporting public services.

What is an unconference?

Basically, it’s a conference without predefined topics. There is a high level structure and theme, but actual topics are generated by the participants on the spot.

Why an unconference?

Simple, less upfront planning (so lots of time for us to put our feet up — KIDDING!)

It’s more than that. We have more flexibility, people focus on issues that matter to them and it encourages spontaneous and collaborative conversations.

More flexibility

Can anyone pitch?

Totally, in fact we encourage it! We want the sessions to reflect the passions, questions and views of all our attendee’s. The joy of the pitch is you never know what topics are going to be discovered

How are the sessions decided?

Democratically. We are running an activity from Liberating Structures called 25/10 Crowd Sourcing. All attendees will read a sample of pitches and decide if they want to take part in the sessions or not. The sessions with the most demand will ultimately be chosen.

What’s the plan for the day?

We will be sending this out to attendees but the schedule is as follows:

What will I need on the day?

We will be using a platform called Hopin for the event on 15 th October. This may also be blocked on your work equipment. The organising team would urge you to find an alternative piece of equipment that will not have the strict security measures your work computer has. This could be a personal
computer, tablet or smart phone. As you can see from the schedule we will be running an hour long arrival and tech check so we can assist with any issues.

How do I access the conference?

Assuming you have claimed your eventbrite ticket you will receive a link to the conference space a few days before the event.

Can I attend during worktime?

That very much depends on where you work I’m sure! However we can help you to explain why the time spent at GovCamp North would be beneficial to you and your organisation. We’ve created a handy “convincer” you can download here 👉 Business Case available here

I’ve got my eventbrite ticket, do I need to do anything else?

YES! as we can’t meet everyone in person we would love to send you some conference “swag” if you have registered for a ticket on eventbrite you will have received an email requesting you address, submit your details here and we will make sure to send you some exciting items. If you haven’t received this email please let us know.
